Google Updates October 30, 2007
Well, the date really is an approximation as I just don’t get into crazy addictive follwing of search positioning. The fact is, like clockwork, Google has had another major update just before the holidays. For all the panicked folks who are trying to figure out what went wrong, here’s the abbreviated version of basically what’s gone on for October;
- Google Updates Visible Back Links - Oh yeah - Just a precursor of things to come…lol
- Google Updates TBPR - Tool Bar Page Rank - And was it a messy one for many - Yikes! Ouch!
- Google has slapped sites buying and selling web page links - Google has to assume it’s for PR and thus - Slap!
- Google serps experience shifts - Why? Google has reevaluated sites and basically, again, in a nutshell, links to a given site are not as valuable to rankings as they once were. Some went up, some went down. If you had the down, you can guess where your ranking went in Google….lol Darn these algorithm shifts. That’s search and why anyone that give guarantees in this business typically isn’t in business for long!
Beyond the above, if you had a ranking drop and are doing things the right way, cheer up. The fact is you can’t control what other websites do that can have an impact on you. So how do you fix it if you were one of the sites that lost position during this update? Get higher quality links. The more you have, the more stability you’ll experience during these types of updates. Not only will your page rank improve, so to will your trust, rankings and traffic. It’s slower than link spam and “offsite seo” (Link Exchanges with Anybody), but in the long run, it can make your website a long term player in search.
